An Affectionate Man

I don't remember uncle Walid that much because i was too young when he was here in Lebanon. Our short conversations were mostly on the phone. I only hear from the people around me whether they are my aunts or my father that he was a loving, industrious, gregarious , generous and ambitious human being.
I asked my aunts to tell me a story of how they remember him by. They told me that the first time he went to Libya he was eighteen years old. He was working in some factory to bring food on the table for his family at home. He had a big family and he insisted on providing a proper life for his siblings. When he got his first salary he sent it to aid his sisters and brothers. He Always kept an open mind and a compassionate heart.
I wish I had been there to witness such a true man . I don't know what to say, but I found a poem that describes exactly how i feel ...
That is what I will remember,
Your bravery and your love
That caring wise and watchful eye
Which now peers at us from above.
I knew the man you became
The uncle who I adore
The leader of a family
Who gave us more and more.
There were so many lessons
Most important how to fight
To be proud of who we are
Stand up with all our might.
Through all the important moments
You made sure to be there
I wish I knew you years ago
With your silly smile and charm and sympathetic stare
The disease had made a comeback
But you wouldn't let us know
You grinned and bared the pain
But we saw you lose your glow.
Surrounded in love and admiration
We stayed with you as your guides
And the sun shone on your face
As you began to switch sides.
A year later I still ache to see you
To hear you laugh or see your smile
I'd willingly bear a harder load
Just to talk for a little while.
That is what I'll remember
Your bravery and your love
That caring wise and watchful eye
That now peers at us from above.
May He Rest In Peace
